Although you state that dirt baggers are a dying breed, it seems there are more people than ever that like to call or identify themselves as such - even if they climb a few days on the road. It's hip to be "dirtbag" now, like some type of credential. There is even a company called Dirt Bag Climbers where you can cop some snazzy wear. Who needs to really climb when you have a T-shirt or chalk bag explaining to the world you're a dirtbag climber? It's a commercialized and hipster term at this point. We're beyond the point of return from the "good ol days"...
